It’s day 6 of #TakeBack Pride & we are celebrating Martina Navratilova, one of the greatest tennis players of all time. In her professional career, she won 59 Grand Slam titles, including 9 Wimbledon singles, the first of which she won against Chris Evert at the age of 21.
In 1992, she used her position as world champion to fight the anti-gay Amendment 2, which pevented sexual orientation being a protected class in Colorado. In 1993 she spoke before the March on Washington for Lesbian, Gay and Bi Equal Rights and Liberation.
She has been vocal about the issue of transwomen competing in female categories. While she could have enjoyed a peaceful retirement as one of the greatest sportswomen ever, she has put herself in the line of fire to protect women’s sports for the next generation.
