Today we #TakeBackPride for Keira Bell, lesbian detransitioner who famously took a Judicial Review case against the Tavistock.
As a teen, suffering from depression, social isolation & struggling with her sexuality and gender non-conformity, Keira was put on puberty blockers.
5 years after transitioning, and after undergoing a double mastectomy, she began detransitioning, realizing she had been attempting to identify out of womanhood and fit in with the boys.
Bell v Tavistock looked at whether 16 year olds could understand the consequences of taking wrong sex hormones. The monumental case brought light on the issues of treatments provided to gender dysphoric young people. The Tavistock was issued a closure order in 2022.
She has spoken on her experiences of medically transitioning and lasting impacts it had on her body. Her bravery in taking court action has potentially saved thousands of young people, particularly LGBs, from going down a path they may regret.
