Today we #TakeBackPride for Stonewall veteran and long time activist Fred Sargeant!
Fred is most well known for his involvement in the Stonewall Riots and being a Co-founder and organiser for the first New York Gay Pride March, both of which sparked the LGB rights movement.
In the years before the Stonewall Riots, Fred alongside Craig Rodwell ran the Homophile Youth Movement which advocated for lesbians and gays.
Later in his life he decided to become a police officer as he wanted to make a positive difference after seeing how the NYPD handled the Stonewall Riots.
To this day, Fred’s advocacy, activism and support continues for LGB rights.
He defends our rights as same-sex attracted individuals and is always there to remind us how far we’ve come and the struggles our elders went through for the privileges we have today.
